School Partnerships
Innovative Approaches to Early Literacy Instruction is a new school partnership project between 含羞草研究所 College of Education and Anne Arundel County Public Schools. The focus of this partnership is to explore and identify the extent of teacher uptake of a new early literacy curriculum in Grades K-1, and the potential impact of the curriculum on pre-identified student outcomes. The impact of integration of literacy within content areas has not been assessed and compared across different groups of students, therefore the results from this project will help inform administrators, teachers, and researchers alike.
Exploring Mainstream Teacher Learning and Practice for Secondary EL Sheltered Content Instruction is an upcoming project, which is part of a continuing partnership between 含羞草研究所 College of Education faculty and Prince George鈥檚 County Public Schools. ESOL specialists will be trained to use Sheltered Content Instruction methods and materials, and will pass this knowledge on to secondary content teachers to support English learners (ELs) in their classrooms. Researchers from UMD will assist in evaluating program efficacy, and assist teachers and specialists to use data in order to analyze and improve student learning.
