The Art Education program offers intensive coursework and applied learning to fully prepare future art educators for today’s diverse schools. Students receive a solid foundation in liberal arts, specialized skills in studio arts, art history and ���߲��о���al best practices. The program emphasizes critical thinking, authentic artmaking, culturally responsive teaching practices, and integration of real-world experiences into the art classroom. The program leads to teacher licensure and a double major in art ���߲��о��� and studio art.

The Creative Initiatives in Teacher Education (CITE) is a graduate-level teacher preparation program in collaboration with the ���߲��о���, College Park (UMD) and the Maryland State Department of Education. Successful program completion results in a Master's of Education (M.Ed.) degree and eligibility for a Maryland teaching certificate in grades 1 through 6.

Curriculum and Instruction - Mathematics Education Specialization: Middle School Math Teaching and Learning Area of Emphasis, Master of Education (M.Ed.) is a 30-credit program intended for teachers already certified in elementary ���߲��о���, special ���߲��о���, or in ESOL who are or plan to teach in subject matter classrooms in the middle grades (4th - 9th grade). This degree program was initiated with the support of several Improving Teacher Quality grants from the Maryland Higher Education Commission, which allowed its development through collaboration across disciplines and research.

The Curriculum and Instruction - Reading Specialist Specialization, Master of Education (M.Ed.) program equips current teachers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to champion literacy initiatives in diverse ���߲��о���al settings, ensuring equitable access to quality ���߲��о��� for all learners. The program focuses on effective reading instruction, improving comprehension and communication skills and fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in students of all ages. Graduates become eligible for certification as reading specialists by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) upon completing the program and acquiring three years of classroom teaching experience.

The Curriculum and Instruction - Teacher Leadership Emphasis: Arts Integration Specialization, Master of Education (M.Ed.) program enhances student engagement, encourages self-expression and supports the development of problem-solving skills. It is designed for already certified teachers aiming to enrich their teaching by incorporating arts into their curricula. Through hands-on engagement with various art forms and practical experience in designing and implementing arts-integrated lessons, students will apply the latest research in creative thinking and active learning. This program is ideal for passionate educators eager to innovate and enhance academic success through the arts.

The highly ranked Curriculum and Instruction - Teacher Leadership Emphasis: STEM Specialization, Master of Education (M.Ed.) program allows in-service elementary and middle school teachers to explore relationships among science, engineering and mathematics through a transdisciplinary approach to integrated STEM. Teachers in the program utilize advanced technology and innovative tools to create a Professional Learning Network, while developing their philosophies on authenticity, equity and achievement in STEM ���߲��о���. This program is part of our Teacher Leadership Emphasis, focusing on advanced professional development studies This program is for students who are already certified teachers. This convenient master’s program enables teachers to earn a degree while maintaining teaching commitments and leads to a state add-on endorsement in “Instructional Leader: STEM (PreK-6)”.

NOTE: This program is open only for Prince George’s County Teachers. The Curriculum and Instruction - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Specialization, M.Ed. prepares students to engage with research, theory and pedagogical practice in the field of TESOL. The TESOL M.Ed. is available to school districts interested in recruiting a minimum of 12-person cohorts and requires a Memorandum of Understanding between Local Education Agencies or schools and the College of Education. The program provides support and nuance for the student’s ability to communicate in multiple languages, crucial for fostering global citizenship, promoting cultural understanding and facilitating international collaboration. This highly ranked program leads to eligibility for PreK-12 World Languages Licensure. Applicants should already be fluent in one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Latin (written only).

The Disability Studies Minor is designed to broaden students’ understandings of the concept of disability, and facilitate connections to content and concepts within other disciplines on campus. It empowers students to critically engage with issues of disability, fostering a deeper understanding of diversity, equity and social justice. By exploring the complex intersections of disability with culture, society, and systems, students emerge as advocates and allies committed to creating a more inclusive and accessible world for all. All undergraduate students regardless of major are welcome to apply.

The 12-credit Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Dual Language Education (DLE) ensures the development of successful DLE educators and leaders. Additionally, the credits in this program may be used toward the M. Ed. program in curriculum and instruction or the M.A. in language, literacy, and social inquiry. Courses are offered during the fall and spring semesters. Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education (EC/ECSE) is a comprehensive teacher ���߲��о��� program designed for individuals passionate about teaching young children with or without disabilities. Sponsored by the Departments of Counseling, Higher Education and Special Education (CHSE), and Human Development and Quantitative Methodology (HDQM), this evidence-based program integrates research on child development, learning, pedagogy, and disabilities to prepare educators for diverse cultural and socioeconomic contexts. The program leads to teacher licensure.

The Elementary Education, Bachelor of Science program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel at teaching in the 21st century. Through a comprehensive curriculum, students develop expertise in various subjects crucial for elementary ���߲��о���, including language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Hands-on experience through placements in local elementary schools allows students to apply classroom learning in real-world teaching contexts under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers. This program leads to teacher licensure.
